The Beagle dog breed is an accepting dog. They enjoy being part of a family. Beagles
generally have a super-friendly temperament. They are tidy, however, they are not necessarily the easiest to
housetrain.
They are generally small in size, up to about 16 inches in height. The beagle is
tough. The Beagle is not prone to veterinary problems. The Beagle should live to a reasonable age.
Beagles need a considerable amount of exercise.
This is a breed that pleases families who lead active lives. The Beagle dog breed is
stubborn and requires a little more patience to train. At the same time, they do not require their master to
be at their side every minute of the day. The Beagle dog breed generally needs exercise. They thrive on
exercise. A yard where the Beagle can run around is ideal. However, the Beagle can accept living in small
quarters. They have a very accepting temperament. The Beagle is willing to adapt to most any circumstance
or living condition.

The Beagle dog breed was bred to be a hunting dog. The breed originated in England. The
English nobles used the Beagle dog breed to hunt quail, foxes, and pheasants by using their scent. Their short
coat makes them ideal for the foulest of weather conditions. Their coat is very easy to clean. After
spending the day outdoors it is easy to clean them up to be with the family in the evening. The Beagles tough
strong legs make them hearty and able to survive all day no matter the activity. Today Beagles have a powerful
sense of smell and are used as rescue and drug sniffing dogs.
Development of Dog Breeds
Man thousands of years ago discovered that dogs could be helpers such as hunters, guards, and
companions. It was found that certain dog traits were better than others for specific jobs or duties.
Man then started breeding dogs for specific traits. This was the start of what is known today as pedigree dog
breeds. Initially man bred their dogs to assist them in their daily lives to work with them. Today many breeds
have been bred to fulfill strictly house companionship needs. The needs of man have varied causing the many
varied breed of dogs.
Beagle Dog Training
Regular Beagle dog training is a must. Beagles are a stubborn breed to train, you will need
to be firm and consistent with training. Puppies have a short attention span. You need to be able to hold their
interest, and keep them excited about wanting to obey.
Your Beagle will need to be reprimanded when he does something wrong or does not listen to you.
However, this doesn’t mean you should shout at your dog. You simply look at him straight in the eye and say in a
firm tone “No”. You should then proceed to show him the correct way, and immediately praise him when he does it.
Discipline should start as a puppy. The Beagle dog breed is a very intelligent dog breed.
