Dog Health Issues

Common Dog Health Problems

The most common potential dog health issues are fleas and, in some areas of the country, ticks. Flea infestations can severely affect a dog's health due to your dog's continuous scratching.  Fleas can carry diseases that can affect the health of your dog. Ticks are a problem because they can be carriers of Lyme disease and the ticks can be painful.

A dog shaking his head and pawing at his ears repeatedly can be signs of an ear infection or other dog health issues.  A dog's health problem, involving the ears, may be yeast related or it may be caused by ear mites.

Another common problem is worms.  Most dogs at one time or another get round worm.  Worms can severely affect a dog's health.  If your dog is scooting their bottom on the ground he is probably infected with round worms.  There are other types of worm infections that can affect your pet.  Heart worms attack a dogs heart and bring about the premature death of a dog.

Parasites can be dangerous as the parasite will feed on your dog's body leaving your dog weak and they can possibly cause heart problems.  You need to be alert to your dog's physical changes to know whether your dog requires medical attention.  Dogs can also be subject to skin and coat problems.
