Do you have a dog you love and cherish?  Is your dog getting up in years?  Does your dog limp occasionally or all the time?  If the answer to any one of these questions is “YES” you may want to consider dog massage therapy.

Advantages of Dog Massage Therapy

Dog massage therapy is fun and relaxing to do.  Your dogs want and need your attention.  A dog massage answers this need and provides your dog with physical therapy.

After a hard day at work would you enjoy a relaxing massage?  I am sure from their reaction that dogs enjoy it as much as we do.   Dog massage therapy has several positive advantages going for it.

Alpha Dog Leader – Dog Massage Therapy

Your dog needs to know and fully understand that you are the alpha dog leader of your household.  In order for you to give your dog a massage your dog must submit himself to you.  This factor of submission increases your being the alpha dog leader in your dog’s eyes.  Your status as a alpha dog leader increases causing greater obedience of the dog.  The result is that providing a massage is not only relaxing physically for your dog, it has the added factor of increasing your status.

Physically / Mentally Relaxing

Often when you get home from a long day at work you feel out of sorts.  I find that when I slow down to massage my dog the action of giving him the massage relaxes me.  My dog is getting a therapeutic massage and I am receiving a psychological massage.  This is a win/win situation for the two of us.  When I had originally heard of dog massage therapy I thought it was ridiculous.  I no longer feel that way as I have discovered so many reasons to continue doing it.

Helps Physical Ailments

Does your dog have a physical ailment?  Many dogs are subject genetically to hip dyslexia.  The dog limps when he walks or becomes fearful to jump.  I have found that dog massage therapy helped my dog with his hip problem.  I know it made it feel better for him.  I know because he would be limping prior to the massage and after the dog massage he stoped his limping for a few hours.

Needs Your Attention

Your dog often craves your love and attention.  They mentally need you to give them some "one on one" time.  When you do not provide them with one on one personal time they become emotionally deprived.   This emotional deprivation can cause behavioral problems.   Behavioral problems, if not immediately addressed, can develop into bad habits.  Dog massage therapy helps fulfill this need for your dog.  Your dog receives his dog massage and gets 100% of your love and attention.

Because of the advantages I have seen for both my dog and myself I no longer feel dog massage therapy is ridiculous.  I have become a very loud vocal proponent of the idea.  I do understand others who have not experienced the benefits first hand but suggest you give it a try.

Finding Help – Learning Dog Massage Therapy

When I first started dog message therapy it was because my Pomeranian, “Big Shot,” had hip dyslexia.  As Big Shot aged it became harder for him to walk and jump up and down stairs.  I was actually considering moving to another house that did not have stairs to make his life more bearable.  Then someone told me about massaging his joints to ease his pain.  I did not know how to do it, but the massage still was a great benefit to him.  Later I learned about a program that taught proper methods and techniques.  It was a great blessing for the two of us.  Dog massage therapy is great if you own a dog.  Your dog will love receiving his massage.  It will provide you with the opportunity to relax from a long stressful day at work.
