Stop Dog Aggression Training

For dogs that are a family pet, dog aggression is a major problem.  All dog breeds have an inclination to naturally revert to aggressive behavior.  Dog aggression with a family dog is especially dangerous as the dog is likely to come into the vicinity of children.  No one wants to have to deal with the aftermath of a dog that has attacked a child or neighbor.  Learning to stop dog aggression before a tragedy occurs is extremely important.Stop Dog Aggression Training

Use Proper Training Methods

Dog aggression is natural for wild pack dogs. A family dog poorly treated may readily revert back to its aggressive tendencies in an attempt to insure its self-protection. It is important as the dog is socialized into the family that dog aggression either directly through inadvertent play or through improper training methodology is not brought into the dog’s environment. Dog aggression whether in play or training will produce an aggressive response. It is important not to introduce the dog to aggression.

Don’t Promote Hyper-Active Play

A dog that has a tendency toward hyper-activity often entices children into rough housing with the dog. The action of playing roughly with the dog causes aggressive dominance behavior to be displayed around members of the family. A dog is likely to become confused as to when aggressive behavior is acceptable or not acceptable. The best stop dog aggression training technique is to never introduce the dog to aggression. A dog that is hyper-active needs to be calmed down immediately. The calming method should be quiet and controlled. Yelling or loud noises will be interpreted by the dog as encouragement of the hyper-active behavior.

Dog Training is Continuous

Stop dog aggression training requires consistency. Dog training is a 24/7 activity for the entire life of the dog. It is important to continually be aware of your actions toward your dog. Avoid actions that may instinctually cause aggressive reactions. Grabbing a dog’s tail is an action that may cause a sudden response as the dog may not have seen the encroachment thus responding defensively. Rapid fast movements can easily be interpreted as aggressive actions requiring the dog’s immediate response.

Instinctively the lack of eye contact is a method dogs in the wild use to communicate aggressive intentions toward another dog or animal. When working with your dog it is important to remember to look into the eyes of your dog to communicate your love.

Positive Reinforcement – Stop Dog Aggression Training

It is important to always have a few dog treats with you when interacting with your dog. Most dogs find food and treats motivationally delicious. Using the treats for positive reinforcement of good behavior encourages the behavior to be repeated.

When your dog meets another dog causing dog on dog aggression you need to respond correctly. First, remove the dog from the threat and calm the dog down. Second, after the dog has calmed down reward him with a treat and praise him for being calm. The dog over time will learn to look to your reactions before he reacts. It is important to always reward good behavior.

Dog training is the dog owner’s responsibility. Dogs are very observant requiring the dog owner to continually be consistent in the owner’s wants, demands and interactions with your dog. Any inconsistency will create encouragement toward disobedience. Stop dog aggression training requires an immediate response to the dog aggression on the owner’s part every time it occurs.
